My Favorites: Flakies (P1)

11/29/2024

{flakies (part 1)}

Welcome to the first part of a new series called 'my favorites', and we're starting off with my favorite flakie polishes of all time. I've compiled pictures from as far as the very beginning of @micknails back in 2015, and I think a good chunk of the polishes shown in this series might be discontinued, LE, or from brands that no longer exist. I will still be including the brand & polish name with each set of swatch pics for reference though! I hope you enjoy reminiscing with me about my favorites, and I'd love to hear about yours!

Shards of History- Navni Beauty

Starting off with a dazzling shimmery gold base with multichrome flakies & slight linear holo throughout. Navni Beauty is an indie brand that's on the smaller side, and she unfortunately hasn't put a collection out for a couple years now (which saddens me). However, the collections & polishes she did release continuously blew me away. I was graciously given the opportunity to swatch for her starting in 2019, and taking pictures for upcoming Navni collections was so exciting for me since her polishes were always so interesting and pretty. Being a swatcher for Navni Beauty consistently since 2019 is among one of my most prized nail polish related accomplishments/endeavors. Also, isn't this such a neat polish? Everything blends together so nicely.

North Pole- Polished for Days

A slate grey base packed with rainbow multichrome flakies. For some reason, grey crellies with multichrome flakies are a special type of vibe for me. There's a few more polishes with similar looks that you'll see up next in this series.

Base: My Life's Porpoise- KBShimmer

Topper: Jagged Heart- Ever After

This version of a grey crelly + rainbow metallic flakies is my favorite of them all. I didn't always use a base color like I did here, but after so many manicures with Jagged Heart, I had to start conserving the polish by using it over an undie!

Rainbow Recruit- Painted Polish

Rainbow Recruit is a bit lighter/warmer of a grey than Jagged Heart. The flakies are also a bit smaller, but still has a perfectly balanced mix of rainbow metallic flakies like the ones I love in Jagged Heart.

Luna- Painted Polish

An interesting take on this style of polish, the colors here compliment each other so well. The blue flakies were so vibrant, and they shifted to an icy blue and a cool purple at some angles.

Sheer Thrills- Emily de Molly

This is one of the more unique polishes I've seen in my day. For me, Sheer Thrills & Spiced Eggnog- ILNP invoked a similar aesthetic. The interesting base color as well as choice of color for the flakies in both polishes really struck me as a 'sisters, not twins' vibe. Unfortunately though, I'm not sure if I ever actually got Spiced Eggnog- or if I did, I don't have photo evidence of it. If I had to choose between the 2 now, I'd probably choose Sheer Thrills, mostly because I am a huge fan of yellow polish in theory, but in reality yellow is usually not what I gravitate towards in polishes. (It will also be very apparent which colors I do gravitate towards as we get further in the series).

Harps in the Haze- Painted Polish

This has a similar look/finish as Rainbow Recruit, also by Painted Polish. The more interesting shades of green are usually my favorite types of greens. For the 'holo' part of this series, there's an extremely interesting shade of green with an extremely interesting name to go along with it (you'll know which one I'm talking about as soon as you read it's name), and its been a long time favorite of mine. I've always liked the 'prugly' colors that can sometimes be polarizing.

Water Lily Pond- Frenzy Polish

This one was a long-time lemming of mine, and I when I got it, I was so happy to finally have it in my collection. Frenzy Polish had a comparable polish called Foxtrot Mike that was similar to Water Lily Pond, but not similar enough for me (which warranted me buying both!).

Hubbled Together- KBShimmer

I overlooked this polish sooo hard after I got it, and sadly destashed it soon after. When I looked back at swatch pics however, I realized what a mistake I had made by getting rid of it! This one was especially neat to me since it glowed in the dark! I also love a good blue base/flakie combo, so destashing this one is still a large regret of mine.

Unicorn Approved 2- Ever After

Again, I can't resist a blue base with flakies. The scattered/linear holo ties this polish together so well.

All Soul's Day- Quixotic Polish

A blue-based flakie polish? Me? Never. The flakies in this lean heavy on the copper side, which compliments the bright cobalt blue so very nicely. And again, I love a nice background holo effect!

Sรณl Blue- KBShimmer

This instantly became a classic favorite for me when I saw it was going to be released, and after receiving it, I was hooked. I'm also very fond of the other KBShimmer polishes released that are recolors/similar to this one. I have How's it Growing? & Knit Happens, a green & a red version respectively.

Mistletoe- Polished for Days

This is such a visually stimulating polish, if you look closely. It feels to me like at a glance, it's a fairly unsuspecting polish. But after taking a closer look, it has so much depth and flavor and nuance. The flakies also spread out and self-leveled so nicely.

Sapphire- KBShimmer

This polish holds a special place in my heart for many reasons. Starting off, I am a September baby (also a Virgo!), so sapphire is my birthstone. When it came time for my dad and step-mom's wedding, I was given the incredible privilege of being a maid of honor. With my extensive nail polish experience, I was tasked by the bride to pick a polish for goody bags that the bridesmaids could then wear to the wedding. Seeing as the wedding colors were dark blue & silver, this polish immediately came to mind as the perfect match, in part due my connection with it. Sapphire was released in KBShimmer's Birthstone collection in 2015, and their wedding was in 2018. Even 3 years after the collection's release, it was the first and only polish that seemed perfect to me for this occasion, so that's what we went with!

Final Thoughts

What are your thoughts about my picks? Let me know if you also love any of the polishes I mentioned, or maybe ones you'd have included!

Thanks for getting to the end of the first part of my inevitably capricious and chaotic series. Part 2 will be my favorites: glitters & toppers, so keep an eye out for that!
